Athena’s Cup is hosting its largest fundraiser to date. In our fight against Breast Cancer, we are asking for a mere $5.00 donation along with a bra or bras to be hooked together in October 2012. In helping to fight the cause, we may even break the bra-chain world record of 169,000 bras!

Today we are at 77,166 bras collected. Send us your bras and hep us break the world record while we also spread the word for the need for women to screen through self examination and medical services.

Now I’ve got four new bras (the black one is hidden behind the white), and I’ll be donating my old ones to Athena’s Cup.

October is such a special month for the entire nation to promote breast cancer awareness and remember our loved ones who have both won or lost their personal battles. Our Goddesses and Adoni have been producing special events nation-wide and they have had wonderful events.

~Thank you to Goddess Roni Carbone who collected a huge sack of bras at her Athena's Cup Bingo over the weekend!

~Thank you, Alana Susko who also brought us 122 bras and a generous cash donation from the hilarious show she created - Comedy On Purpose at The Comedy Connection in East Providence for the Athena's Cup! It was a wonderful night of fun and laughs too!

~Thank you Goddess Shelly Bernardini through the 2nd Annual Bike Run brought us 366 bras and a donation of $1,134.00!

~Thank you Goddess Talia Coccia and her fianceé Andrew Cantone brought us 250 bras through Athena’s 1st Annual Golf Tournament! Everyone had a blast.

Save the date, July 16, and all of your old bras. The Skinny Cow Perfect Cup is coming to the Rhode Island Convention Center.

Sponsored by Skinny Cow low-fat ice cream by Nestlé, the free event will include a professional bra fitting and free bra, Skinny Cow ice cream tasting, and swag bags with goodies.

Skinny Cow has made the Providence event extra special by partnering with local charity, Athena's Cup, to support their breast cancer awareness campaign. Skinny Cow is encouraging every attendee to bring a bra to decorate at the event's decoration station. The bras will be used to help Athena's Cup reach their goal of collecting 169,000 donated bras in an effort to raise breast cancer awareness, fund research, and break the Guinness World Record for a chain of bras.

Athena's Cup is soooo excited to announce that we have officially broken the 55,000 bra bar.
As of March 17th we have collected 55,891 bras. Thank you to all our supporters and collectors. Bras are being donated from all over the country. With each bra collected we bring attention to the need for breast cancer education, early detection through self and doctor examination and mammograms.

Here are some ways you can help prevent breast cancer....

Stay physically active by getting regular exercise
Maintain a healthy weight
Avoid using hormone replacement therapy (HRT), or find out the risks and benefits of (HRT) and if its right for you
Limit the amount of alcohol you drink

Greetings friends of the Athena's Cup!

It's our one year anniversary!

On October 1st 2009, Athena's Cup was sent into cyberspace! It was just a seed, an intention.

As many of you know, our original intent was to collect 169,000 bras to break the world record by January 2010.

We didn't make it.
So we set a new target date: 10-10-10.

That's 9 days from today.

We have collected almost 38,000 bras in one year AND
we have collected almost $45,000 in donations!

Wow.

I don't consider this a failure at all.

It is a great success.

October is breast cancer awareness month, but for the last year, every month, week and day have been about breast cancer awareness. Our goal is to get women talking about breast cancer, doing self breast exams, wearing the proper fitting bra, standing together against this horrifying disease...that is something we do every single day.

And it makes me proud.

So we once again re-adjust our target date. 10-10-11

For the next year we will continue to collect bras and donations in hopes of meeting our ambitious goal in one year!

On a daily basis I get letters, cards and emails from women who are touched by our efforts.

It is no longer about the destination. It is about the journey.

We can't do it without you...please help us by cleaning out your bra drawer and sending us your ill fitting bras! If you have the ability, we'd love to put a pink box at your place of business or your gym or hair salon!

On Friday, October 8th the 'Bobbi Dolls' team will host a huge Athena's Cup raffle event.

The local multiclub, Mardi Gras, has excitedly jumped on board. Understanding and sharing the 'Cup' vision, the club will be opening one hour early for a free pizza party, followed by an entire night of fun! Mardi Gras houses four nightclubs in one - catering to a variety of music fans, with several DJs and live bands. Three local radio stations will be present to cover the event and even participate in some of the festivities!

Throughout the evening, Goddesses will collect bras - donating bras will even get you LEI'D!!! And raffle tickets will be sold in each of the four clubs. Concert tickets, restaurant/hotel/salon gift certificates, gym memberships, and even a tropical getaway will be raffled throughout the evening!

BUT, raffles are just one of the major activities of the evening. We'll also be hosting a game-show contest right there in the club! SURVIVOR: Sexy Edition will give guests a chance to play their way through several risque elimination rounds for great prizes...a simple $20 donation gets a spot to play!

The event is 21+ and several drink specials will include 'I LOVE BOOBIES' - 'SAVE THE MELONS' - and jello shots appropriately named 'SLIPPERY SILICONE SHOOTERS'. Mardi Gras Multiclub is located at 1500 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston, RI - event start at 6pm and lasts until 1am! We hope to see you all there!

You will find the Cruise for the Cure Flyer for 25 September 2010; the first of several Charity and Fundraising events that I will planning this year. This Ride will take Riders through some beautiful scenic routes all to benefit an incredible cause and charity in Athena's Cup. If everyone goes out and buys a ream of paper at Staples, prints out the flyer and posts it everywhere they can in and around their areas, we will have some serious coverage. Please post at every Dunkin' Donuts, bar, bike shop, tattoo parlor, etc and obviously the American Legion Posts. Athena's Cup is attempting to break the World Record for largest bra chain by collecting 169,000 bras and linking them all together and raise $500,000 for Breast Cancer research. Hollywood here we come!

Athena's and the Athena's Cup have been invited to Hollywood this coming weekend to collect celebrity bras at the Emmy Awards!

Athena's Cup will have a booth in the gifting suite where celebrities come in and collect their swag bags the day before the actual event!

We are bringing 80 bras with us along with markers for celebrities to autograph. We will be taking our own photographer and videographer to capture the event on film! Our goal is to get celebrities to autograph the bras and hold them up and say on film "I support the Athena's Cup and You SHOULD TOO!"

We will also ask the celebrities to "Tweet" about the Athena's Cup on their Twitter accounts. This could potentially lead to millions of people being exposed to our cause!

We have confirmation that TMZ, E! and Entertainment Tonight will be walking the gift suite. We are holding the vision of getting their attention too!

The run will begin in Warwick and end in Exeter, with an afternoon celebration to follow including food, raffles and family-friendly entertainment. On Saturday, June 5, bra collection locations will be available in Warwick at the motorcycle registration area, and at the charity event in Exeter following the ride.

Women are Invited to Donate Worn Bras at Fashion Bug’s Bra Fit Event, May 22-23

According to experts, 70-85 percent of women are wearing an ill-fitting bra and living in needless discomfort. Fashion Bug is inviting women to its annual Bra Fit Event where they can not only get fitted for right-sized support, but they can also show support a worthy cause by dropping of a donation of their old bras. Athena’s Cup is a national campaign that aims to collect and hook together 169,000 donated bras in an effort to raise breast cancer awareness and break the current bra-chain Guinness World Record. Athena's Cup will collect a $5.00 donation with each bra collection in an effort to raise half a million dollars for breast cancer charities.

We are very pleased to announce the kick off of the 2nd Annual Gloria Gemma 5K Run/Walk as well as Torch FUNdraising at Flames of Hope on October 9, 2010. Our inaugural 5K was a new addition to our family of events. The 5K was something we were very excited to share with you, our loyal supporters and new friends. Last year was a learning experience and with all of your valuable feedback it has become our focus.

It was very exciting to see so many people coming together and take a stand for a common cause. To run and walk for those that cannot and those that will again. With over 1,200 participants our first time out and very short notice we were in complete and utter awe. We surpassed our fundraising goal by $10,000 but our return was worth far more.
Our Torch FUNdraising program was a new addition last year as well. It is quite simply an unbelievable, moving experience. It warms your heart and brings tears to your eyes as you look beside you and realize that you are not alone. It is the time to honor our loved ones and cherish our precious moments.

We invite you to take even bigger steps this year. We want to see you, your mothers, your sisters, aunts, grandmothers, cousins, husbands, wives, children, friends, colleagues and even your dogs rally with us in this battle against breast cancer. We are looking for 200 Torch Bearers to take their stand at the Rhode Island State House and 5,000 participants to claim the streets of Providence. Will you help us reach our goal?

I was overjoyed to meet a new friend of the Athena's Cup! Her name is Ellen and she stopped by Athena's last week with a big bag of bras and a photo of her friends holding up a chain of bras!
Ellen is a breast cancer survivor! Here is her story:

#36. The pink bra holder in the back right is Joyce, a 3 year survivor and my
great mentor through the process. When my friends gathered for their Christmas
party, I had informed them about the project, so they all brought at least one
bra, and linked them together to show me their effort. They called me here in RI
as they formed the circle and we toasted the good health of all of these strong
and vibrant women.

Long time Athena's Goddess Niki Towne of West Roxbury displayed a collection basket at TenXSpa - and all woman's gym in West Roxbury Ma from October-December.

Generous women donated 150 Bras before or after their workout. Some bras were new, some old, all of different shapes, sizes, colors and styles, just like the many women at the gym.

The current state of things in the Athena's Cup world...

Alas dear friends we did not hit our goal of 169,000 bras by year end.

Currently we have received over 7,000 bras to date. We have also collected over $8,000.00 for to help find a cure! The goal is $500,000.00

Because we still have such a long way to go to break the record, there will be no event on January 10th.

I was sad about this.

For about 60 seconds.

And then I readjusted my attitude and realized that if I set a new date - it would give us more time to spread the word about the Athena's Cup on a national level.

Not a day passes where I don't receive an envelope, a box or a bag of bras!

Bras have come from San Fran, Ohio, Florida, Arizona...as well as New England.

Newspaper articles have been written.

Events have been held in bars, tattoo parlours, hair salons, and women's expos.

A promotional video was shot.

We are moving towards the goal a little each day, one steady step at a time.

Things in the works:

T-shirts have been designed and will be available in a week.

I have consulted with a Green Imaging Video to create a compelling video showcasing the bras we have collected so far with interviews from survivors as well as people left behind to mourn our fallen sisters.

I am planning to meet with the mayor of Woonsocket to ask if we can hold the event here in my home town, and plan an elaborate event around it with musical guests and much fan fare! (Wish me luck)

The new date my Athena's Cup warriors is October 2010. Go forth and spread the good word. Help us collect 169,000 bras and beat the record!

Now we must get on Oprah, Ellen and shows of that caliber. We must also catch the eye of the national magazines like People, Us, Cosmo and Women's Health.

Please help us by sending emails and letters to these media outlets.

Together, we can change the world and stop this deadly killer of women...

Cranston 'goddess' looks to raise the bar with bra fundraiser

ONE BRA AT A TIME: Cranston resident Lori Gonsalves-Casale holds up a bra she collected as part of the Athena’s Cup fundraiser to benefit both breast cancer research and area women’s shelters.
Five years ago, Lori Gonsalves-Casale was in a rut. She wanted to stay home to raise her two children but didn’t feel challenged by her part-time job as a Pampered Chef hostess. But when she was invited to a party featuring Athena’s home novelties, a Rhode Island-based adult novelty company, Casale had no idea she was about to go from stay-at-home mom to goddess overnight. “The more I thought about it, I said ‘I could do what she did’,” Casale said of her first Athena’s experience. “The next day I resigned from Pampered Chef.” That same day, she signed up to become an Athena’s Goddess, the title given to all of the representatives. After training on hosting home parties and on the product line that features more than 300 items, she was ready to strike out on her own. Since then, Casale has made a name for herself in the industry. A former “Goddess of the Year” and “Most Inspired Leader” honoree, she is able to support herself through her new career and now is giving back with the Athena’s Cup fundraiser. The idea for the Cup came from Athena’s founder Jennifer Jolicoeur and serves two purposes. First, participants donate $5 or more toward breast cancer research. Second, women are asked to donate bras in pursuit of breaking the world record of hooking together 169,000 bras. By October of 2010, Athena’s hopes to up that record to 179,000. “I want to help because of the money for research, and not to mention I want to be a part of hooking together 179,000 bras. That’s kind of cool,” Casale said, laughing. To encourage her customers to participate, Casale gives $5 off orders, which in essence means she’s donating that sum to the campaign. She’s glad to do it, though, and said she is amazed at how willing women are to take it off for the cause. “I had one woman say, ‘This is my favorite bra, but I don’t have breast cancer’,” Casale recalls. “I have had people meet me at bank parking lots with bags of bras. This is just wonderful.” Once Athena’s Cup comes to a close, the bras in good condition will be donated to women’s shelters and the funds directed to the Susan. G. Komen for the Cure foundation. To date, the company has collected close to 7,000 bras. Athena’s was created in 1998 out of Woonsocket, and is now in 32 states. Still, there are fewer than 3,500 goddesses, which Casale says has given her a vested interest in the company. At Pampered Chef, her employee number was 625,000. At Athena’s, it is only 670. “Would I have sought out Athena’s? Probably not, but obviously, everything happens for a reason,” she said. Now, Casale loves what she does for a living, and is still able to be there for her 6- and 9-year-old children. “The economy has not affected this business. It’s a very, very thriving business,” she said. In fact, she hosts one to three parties every week, with sales going as high as $1,200 at a single event. The individual who invites the goddess gets merchandise credit worth 10 percent of the party’s sales. For her part, Casale also collects a percentage of the profits of the goddesses in her “downline.” By recruiting salespeople, she expands that team. When her team members recruit salespeople, she then gets a smaller piece of those profits. She would like to expand Athena’s to the Seattle area within the next couple of years but said she is more concerned with recruiting the right people than the most people. “I don’t really care what your personality is, I care that you want to do this,” she said. Casale is no stranger to sales. She was a longtime manager at Filene’s when she lived in California. A Providence native, she moved to Cranston upon her return to the Ocean State and knew she wanted to continue working with people in some capacity. Even she is somewhat surprised by the path she found, but she wouldn’t change it for the world. “Don’t get me wrong, it’s a paycheck, but there’s something so much more fulfilling to see a crowd laughing,” she said. “This is where I’m staying.” Sitting at her dining room table, Casale encourages other women to seek out a career that makes them happy. She looks the part of stay-at-home super-mom, but has the presence of a stand-up comedian. “If everybody laughs, I know I did a good show. If no one laughs, I know they don’t have a good sense of humor.” Going forward, Casale wants to grow her team and expand Athena’s, but her priority now is doing some good with the company that she credits with changing her life. Ohio Supports the Athena's Cup!

Friday December 4th at Anatomy in Cleveland, Ohio

Local Goddess Kristina Schuman had been promoting this event for over a month! She posted it on her meetup group for 20s & 30s professionals, on craigslist and all over town. She got local businesses like Aveda & D'vine to donate gift cards & products to our raffle prize that included our most popular Athena's products too. That evening we saw over 85 people! They got in free with a bra donation, or paid $2 at the door. Some brought more than one, and some paid $5 and $10. I collected the bras and strung them up the stairway to club, and created an Athena's Cup style "Red Velvet Rope". Goddess Lorri D'amico sold raffle tickets for our door prize and 3 different DJs donate they time and played for free.

One of them didn't mind at all, because breast cancer has hit close to home...his wife Danielle is a survivor. She came out that evening and was such an inspiration to be near! Kristina presented her with our Athena's Awareness bracelet and she drew the winner for prize basket. She was a beautiful presence that night.

When it was all over, we raised $225 for the Athena's Cup & over 50 bras! Not bad for a frigid night in downtown Cleveland!

Athena's Cup partners with Fast Lane Tattoo in NY

24 Hours of Tattooing to Save the TaTa’sWhen the Athena’s Cup was born, I ran right home and told my husband about it. We have been talking about doing a 24 hour tattoo event to support breast cancer for a year or 2 and never took action on it until now… At 11am on October 30th the doors opened at Fast Lane Tattoo and would be open for a full 24 hours for the first time ever. The goal was to tattoo as many Breast Cancer Ribbons as we could for only $25 each all to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer. This event was a call to action for many Goddesses as well as the entire crew of Fast Lane Tattoo! This event was magical and ran so smoothly you’d of thought we’d done it many times before. The flow kept moving, the artists kept tattooing and the Goddesses of Athena's were here to support it! We also created event T-shirts and had a couple of raffles all for the cause. Customers, friends and my tattoo artists submitted items for the raffle, we put an Athena’s goody bag together & Jamie Winchester CEO of Every Last Crumb made and donated some of her delicious cookies. They were a HUGE hit!

A local woman contacted me and scheduled 16 appointments all for Breast Cancer Survivors. She even put together a beautiful pink basket of wonderful goodies and sold raffle tickets for $1 each...all to support our event!

The outpouring of support was amazing to see…I was truly inspired! Many women and men brought bags full of bras with them, we collected more than 300 during the course of the event. At some points, the shop was so full people, they were pouring out the front door. Even if there was a wait, everyone rolled with it. When I ran out of the event shirts, everyone understood. It was the most amazing event to witness.
We had women and their families coming to support them. We had grandmas with granddaughters all getting the ribbon to honor their Grandma because she’s a survivor. I had a hostess show up…she had shaved her head the week before in honor of her sister who is currently battling this disease and recently lost all her hair because of the kemo treatments. She simply said, “Thank you so much Heather. This is the most unique fundraiser I’ve ever heard of and as soon as I saw it I thought, there is no way I’m not doing this.”
All in all the crew did 169 tattoos for the cause! I’m so very proud of each and every one of them. They gave this event their TRUE 24 hour attention. Even when they didn’t think they could keep going, they did. All of the ribbons looked great wether it was done in the 1st or the 24th hour! I couldn’t be happier with the outcome and I’m sure this will become an annual Event at Fast Lane Tattoo!

Athena Goguen is helping with a national effort to raise money and awareness for breast cancer by breaking a world record. JOURNAL PHOTO/CAITLYN KELLEHER Athena Goguen hopes to collect 1,000 bras on Sunday as part of a national effort to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research - and break a Guinness World Record.
Entitled Athena's Cup, her campaign is part of an effort by her employer, Athena's Home Novelties, to break the Guinness World Record for the most bras hooked together. Each person contributing a bra (or more) is asked to donate $5 to the Susan G. Koleman [breast cancer] Foundation.
"This is something (the company president) gave to us as an optional activity," the 26-year-old said. "I have family members that have survived breast cancer. How could I not take it up?"
Two of Goguen's aunts battled and survived breast cancer.
"They are truly tested women," she said. "They have always been role models for me."
She's hoping the Oct. 25 collection day, which will run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine, at 22 Main
St. in Ashburnham, will
springboard her efforts to collect 1,000 bras. She's also running a mail-in campaign until Jan. 5 to help reach her goal.
"This is my community. This is where I lived," Goguen said. "I really hope the community sees my flyers, reads this story and are as inspired by this company as I am."

The campaign will conclude with the formal counting on Sunday, Jan. 10, in Rhode Island.
Incorporated in 1998 and based in Woonsocket, R.I., Athena's Home Novelties describes itself as one of the country's leading adult novelty party plan companies.
"The reality is, that in order to break the current record, we must gather 169,000 bras," said Jennifer Jolicoeur, owner of Athena's Home Novelties and Heavenly Goddess Spa Parties, in a press release. Australia holds the Guinness Record for most bras hooked together, but Goguen hopes Americans will trump that number come Jan. 10.
"So far we have gotten everything from training bras to triple-Es," she said.
Goguen said some bras are being donated in memory of friends or loved ones with messages written on the material. New bras that are contributed will be donated to breast cancer survivors that have gone through the reconstructive surgery.
A woman has a 1 in 8 chance of having invasive breast cancer some time during her life, according to the American Cancer Society. The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 35. There are more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
To mail donations - bras and those $5 bills - to Gougen, the address is P.O. Box 498, Ashburnham, MA 01430. Or, donations may be mailed to the Athena's Cup headquarters, 640 Winter St., Woonsocket, RI 02895. Donations must arrive by Jan. 7. For more information, visit athenascup.org.

The birth of the Athena's Cup - 09-20-09
Members of the Athena's Training Team and Jennifer Jolicoeur's personal Dream Team gathered at her home to 'relax' after 3 long days of meetings! They removed their bras and threw them in a pile. Jennifer got the idea to hook them all together. As she did this, she was visited by devine inspiration...
"We should break the world record for most bras strung together...."
The rest is history!

Women began submitting bras before there was a logo, web-site, or flyer! The initiative has been organic, grass roots. Women telling women about this wonderful way to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research!

It's heartbreaking to know that this woman lost her mother to this deadly disease.

Here is a bra from a survivor! As you can read on the bra, she had to undergo a mastectomy in 2008.

This bra is dedicated to a woman who lost her life to breast cancer...so young.

Every woman - is important to someone. We are daughters, mothers, sisters, aunts, grandmothers and best friends. Our sisters who have passed on, are not forgotten.

Athena's held a 'bra drive" at the Autumnfest harvest festival in Woonsocket, RI. We collected 300 bras! 75 year old women and teenaged girls surrendered their bras on the spot. Lisa Hoopis spent 3 days raising awareness and collecting bras!

Athena’s Home Novelties is hosting its largest fundraiser to date.
